When asked why he chooses to only depict donkeys in his work, he answers, “because donkeys are obedient and oppressed, the perfect symbol of contemporary people.”
Mahmoodkhan was born in Rasht, Iran. He taught in primary schools for thirty years in northern part of the country. A severe accident twenty years ago resulted in serious damage to his spine. After a difficult surgery, his body became more and more paralyzed. He lived at home with his wife for twenty years, without any contact with anyone else, and suffered from severe depression for long periods of time.
He discovered painting a long time ago, but began drawing more seriously only around the age of seventy. All of his drawings are made with marker on paper board.
