Izabella Ortiz came to painting from a dream. She relates that one evening in 2009, she awakened and like a sleepwalker grabbed a painting she had in her home and began painting over it. She has been producing in a compulsive way since then. Her trance painting method was born after a pulmonary illness. The act of painting became essential to her. Most of her titles contain the word “dream” because for her, her creative roots grow in her dreams. Her dreams are her capacity to transcend everything she intercepts and absorbs, spilling out into her paintings. They allow her a way to put her life directly onto the paper, the forms and materials whispering to her, telling her what to do.
